With young people increasingly bucking alcohol, the mocktail scene in San Francisco feels like it's growing faster than ever.
The big picture: If you're committed to Dry January (and maybe beyond), here are some bars and restaurants to check out.
🍸ABV: One of the best bars in the Mission, ABV features a variety of low-ABV and non-alcoholic drinks. The Negroni, which mixes a non-alcoholic aperitif with a charred grapefruit tonic, is a local favorite. For those of us whose tastes err on the sweeter end, the Passionfruit Fix with its salted rim is the way to go.
- 4 pm-2am every day at 3174 16th St.
🥂 Trick Dog: This popular bar is known for its creative artisan drinks and constantly evolving menu, which pays tribute to San Francisco. My personal favorite non-alcoholic drink, for obvious reasons: the spicy, dong quai-infused Chinatown Pretty.
- 4pm-12am Sunday through Thursday and 4pm-2am Friday and Saturday at 3010 20th St.
🌊 Ocean Beach Cafe: This casual beachside restaurant turns into a bustling non-alcoholic bar at night. The hemp-infused Destroyer of Bad Vibes (truly an epic name) is a popular drink, as is the wide selection of nonalcoholic beer, wine and spirits.
- 8am-5pm Monday through Thursday and 8am-6pm Friday through Sunday at 734 La Playa St.
🥃 The Snug: Founded by four industry veterans, this Pacific Heights bar's non-alcoholic menu leans into the sweet and sour. Ask for the Sparkling Aloe if you're looking for something light and refreshing, or the Cherry Blossom for a kaleidoscope of flavor.
- 4-10pm Monday, 4-11pm Tuesday through Thursday, 4pm to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 10pm Sunday at 2301 Fillmore St.
🍷 Blackbird Bar: This cozy spot offers non-alcoholic versions of its signature cocktails as well as low-ABV and zero-proof drinks, including the Aperol Spritzaperol sparkling wine and a fig-infused balsamic orange and grapefruit soda.
- 5-11pm Monday, 5pm to midnight Tuesday through Thursday, 4pm-2am Friday, 2pm-2am Saturday and 2-11pm Sunday at 2124 Market St.
