What's better than sipping an iced coffee on a warm, sunny weekend morning in one of California's most loved cities? Doing it with your colleague who lives there, of course.
The latest: I recently met up with Kate while I was visiting my hometown for the Thanksgiving holiday. We went to Izola, a trendy bakery in the East Village that makes artisan sourdough loaves and flaky croissants.
We split two croissants — a traditional one ($8) layered with mounds of butter and their muffuletta ($15) version inspired by the New Orleans sandwich. Each paired nicely with our drinks: an iced coconut cream latte ($7) and a peppermint tea infusion ($5).
The muffaletta was our favorite. Photo: Kate Murphy/Axios
💭 My thought bubble: I loved the café's industrial, open-air vibe — fitting for San Diego's sunny year-round weather.
Kate was especially excited to meet Mimi, who bears a strong resemblance to her pup Penny.
