Craving comfort food isn't a trend — it's a reflex. When the urge for something warm and familiar hits, most of us give in.
That's the idea behind Chicken Fried Palace, a new concept from Chef Seth Stowaway, serving Southern diner classics and a dose of nostalgia.
Stowaway, who closed Michelin-starred Osito in May, returns to the city's dining scene with a new restaurant in the Mission paying homage to the Southern food traditions he grew up with in Texas.
What to expect: The menu features its namesake gravy-smothered chicken fried steak ($23), which can be customized with four different protein options and sides like mashed potatoes, hash browns or rice.
Other homestyle dishes include buttermilk biscuits ($8), grits ($16), patty melt ($18) and pork chops ($28).
The bloomin' onion ($14), with fried garlic and chili crisp, and the salt cod pancake ($16) with pimento cheese are also sure to be fan favorites.
And in case you're wondering — no, fried chicken is not on the menu.
🤔 Our thought bubble: Why is the original dish called chicken fried steak if it's not typically made with chicken? Who knows.
If you go: Open 9am-3pm daily at 2240 Mission St., with dinner service and cocktails set to begin in January.
