Portola Music Festival: What to know before you go

• Other performers range from Venezuelan musician Arca and glossy synth-pop duo Magdalena Bay to rapper Zack Fox and Dutch DJ Mau P.
• There will also be numerous food options, including Bodega SF and Noodle Boys. Wine bar favorite Bar Gemini and cocktail haven The Felix will serve drinks.

The intrigue: Can't-miss acts include Underworld, The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers, who helped ignite a wave of British electronic music that carried underground rave sounds, like acid house and techno, into the mainstream.

• That '90s lineage continues with newer acts like South Korean DJ Peggy Gou, whose nostalgic sound draws from early Chicago House pioneers and Berlin club culture.

What to expect: Parking isn't available at the pier, so take public transit or a rideshare to the main entrance at 900 Marin St.

• From 12:30-11:30pm on both days, a shuttle will transport ticket holders between the festival and the 24th Street Mission BART station for free.

Pro tip: Bring extra layers! The pier gets cold and windy at night.
