SF's summer chill is breaking decades-old records

What they're saying: "It's not record-breaking — but at this point, we're looking anywhere from 20 to 30 years since we've had this cold of a summer," Matt Mehle, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Monterey, told the LA Times.

Between the lines: Low pressure off the California coast is preventing warmer air from moving in, keeping skies gray and damp.

• Chilly ocean waters and strong wind patterns are extending the spell of drizzly, overcast weather, according to the NWS.

What's next: The temperatures are expected to continue through August unless conditions significantly change.
