Alamo Drafthouse Cinema celebrated its newest theater at Santa Clara's Valley Fair this week with a grand opening ceremony and early screening of James Gunn's "Superman."
Why it matters: Founded in Texas in 1997, the chain is betting on its Bay Area audience at a time when theaters are still struggling to rebound from the pandemic.
State of play: Alamo opened its first regional location here in SF in 2015, bringing cinephiles a unique experience that combined screenings with food and drinks.
The chain announced in December that it would expand to South Bay with new locations in Mountain View and Santa Clara. Both opened their doors to moviegoers in June.
The Silicon Valley theaters are the largest in Alamo history and house the company's biggest screens, according to John Smith, Alamo's West Coast marketing director.
What they're saying: "We see a ton of potential in these spaces," Smith said at a preview event earlier this year. "We can really elevate the bones of what was set up here into something pretty special."
