San Francisco holds a special place in Beatles fans' hearts as the city where the Fab Four's touring era began and ended.
State of play: The City by the Bay is both the site where the band kicked off its first-ever North American tour and played their final commercial concert.
The Beatles played to thousands of screaming fans at Cow Palace on Aug. 19, 1964, before holding their last official show at Candlestick Park a mere two years later on Aug. 29, 1966.
The bottom line: Beatlemania redefined the global music industry. The Beatles would go on to become the blueprint for modern music, pop stardom and fan culture.
