The Bay Area took home multiple awards from this year's American Institute of Architects (AIA) Awards.
The awards, which honor outstanding achievements in 11 categories, are among the industry's highest distinctions.
The Coliseum Place Affordable Family Housing, a new 58-home development in East Oakland, was named one of the COTE Top Ten, which highlights projects that meet criteria for social, economic and ecological value.
The facility serves low-income and previously unhoused families in a historically marginalized neighborhood.
It's an all-electric project that features an innovative, decentralized hot water system that significantly reduces energy use.

Stanford University's Center for Academic Medicine, located in Palo Alto and known as the "Treehouse at Stanford," received the Education Facility Design Award.
Meant to help combat physician burnout, it sits within Stanford's historic arboretum and integrates nature into its design.
People inside the building are never more than 30 feet from a window.
