Meet the winners of the mysterious SF treasure hunt

• The clues led them to a 22-pound treasure chest hidden between boulders off the Historic Trail on Mount Sutro containing ingots, currency, collectible baseball cards and a gold nugget inside of a stoppered bottle.

What they're saying: "It was very validating to find it and know that we were clever enough to figure it out," Theriault told Axios.

• "It also reminds us how much we appreciate the amazing job SF Rec and Park and the NPS [National Park Service] does, none of this would have happened without them and our great parks," he said.

The intrigue: While the question of who created the riddle is still a mystery, the lucky winners say perseverance helped them find the answer.

• That, and "the power of autism + a golden retriever," they added.

The latest: "Holy cow that was fast," the riddlers' website states. "We'd love to do this again. If any deep-pocketed collaborators are interested, please do reach out."
