There's a reason why Yamo, a Burmese hole-in-the-wall run by a mother-daughter duo, has had a loyal following for years.
Known for its ridiculously inexpensive menu, long lines and no-frills service, the 12-person counter spot has been a Mission District favorite for nearly two decades.
What I ate: The house-made noodles ($8) were dressed in a slightly-sweet, umami-packed sauce with tender morsels of beef and crunchy bits of fried garlic.
Other standouts worth trying are the spicy tea leaf salad and tangy mango chicken.
My thought bubble: Apart from being outrageously affordable, the food is delicious.
Pro tip: Make sure to stop by an ATM ahead of time because it's cash only.
