Golfers in San Francisco expect to spend about $4,416 this yearon clubs, gear and expenses like course fees, club memberships, travel and lessons, according to a new survey from Whatnot and Censuswide.
The intrigue: 76% of local golfers say they spend between three to six hours a week watching the sport — higher than the national figure of 51%.
78% of San Francisco's golf enthusiasts also spend at least 4 hours or more a week playing golf during the peak season, the highest rate of the cities surveyed and above the national average of 60%.
The big picture: Millennials are spending more of their green on the green than GenXers and Boomers as golf gains a bigger and younger following.
What's next: Golf's next major tournament, the PGA Championship, will tee off next week in Charlotte, North Carolina.
