The Returning Citizens Association (RCA), an Oakland-based nonprofit that helps formerly incarcerated people transition back into society, is celebrating the second issue of its Tapped-In Magazine with an event Saturday in partnership with the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL).
Driving the news: RCA's exhibition and book fair will highlight authors and artists who have been incarcerated or affected by the criminal justice system.
There will be performances, storytelling and an art exhibition.
Copies of Tapped-In Magazine's second issue, featuring testimonials and art on personal growth, will also be available.
Zoom in: Notable authors expected at the book fair include Earlonne Woods, who co-created the award-winning podcast "Ear Hustle" with Nigel Poor while incarcerated in San Quentin State Prison.
What they're saying: "It's rare for people inside jails and prisons to have the chance to share their artwork and writing with those of us outside," Rachel Kinnon, SFPL's jail and reentry services manager, said in a statement.
If you go: The exhibition will be held from 2-5pm at the Main Library's Latino/Hispanic Room at 100 Larkin St.
