Best thing I ate this week: Sesame chicken at House of Nanking

What I ate: I tried their famous crispy sesame chicken ($17), which is coated in a tangy sauce with glazed sweet potatoes and lightly sautéed chayote, a Mexican squash-like vegetable with a mild flavor and subtle sweetness.

My thought bubble: I've tried so many variations of this popular dish but none has impressed me as much as House of Nanking's. The sweet potato and chayote add texture and depth, putting a unique spin on a classic dish that you won't find elsewhere.

Pro tip: The portions are huge and served family style, so if you're eager to try several dishes I'd recommend going with a group. Get there on the earlier side since the line can get pretty long.
