Have you ever sat in a performance thinking, "Why didn't I spend my entire childhood learning tap dancing? My parents robbed me of a career in showbiz!"
That's how you'll feel after seeing "Some Like It Hot" — or at the very least, you'll come away with a newfound respect for those treading the boards.
Catch up quick: The musical, first staged on Broadway in 2022, is based on the 1959 film starring Marilyn Monroe and follows the story of two jazz musicians who dress as women to escape the mob.
Yes, but: While the stage production is still set in prohibition-era Chicago, it's been modernized with a few twists for today's audiences.
💭 My thought bubble: The show's leads — debonair Jerry and wise-cracking Joe — are perfect foils, with tap numbers that nod back to the Nicholas Brothers or Fred Astaire. And the final chase scene is truly a perfect piece of farce.
The SF production is of the same New York caliber, with triple-threat performers who sing, tap dance and wisecrack their way through an unforgettable show.
If you go: "Some Like It Hot" is running at the Orpheum Theatre until Jan. 26.
