The Golden Girls Live continues SF holiday tradition

State of play: Four beloved drag queens dress up as the original Golden Girls characters, acting out episodes, scene by scene, shot for shot. 

Flashback: I went in blind when I first saw the show in 2020. Two hours and one visit from the "shot fairy" later, I was sitting onstage with the Girls (including the late, great Heklina who played Dorothy) and I was obsessed.

What to expect: The event features two classic episodes of the NBC show, interspersed with live Christmas carols sung by the audience during scene changes. Expect laugh-out-loud one-liners and broad characters – the writing on this sitcom has aged well and translates perfectly to a drag show. 

• Coco Peru's dry delivery as Dorothy is pitch perfect and Matthew Martin's Blanche could milk a scene entrance for a full 10 minutes and the audience wouldn't mind a bit. 

Behind the scenes: The set designers worked meticulously to recreate the show's iconic sets, including sourcing matching fabrics and even the same brand of food processor used in the kitchen!
