Painter Renée DeCarlo founded The Drawing Room (TDR) seven years ago to promote Bay Area artists.
State of play: Today, it's a nonprofit arts organization that revitalizes large, unused commercial spaces and transforms them into hubs for exhibitions, public programs and educational events with a focus on social and environmental justice.
TDR has overhauled five properties in the Mission and Richmond and partnered with the San Francisco Unified School District to provide mentorship to high school students in professional gallery practices.
Driving the news: TDR is celebrating its anniversary with Bay Area public radio station KALW, which will be hosting a conversation tonight with DeCarlo and and artists Arnav Singh, Julia LaChica, Quincy Fong-Adams, Luis Garcia and Thomas Tymstone.
The event will take place at TDR's new retrospective exhibit, currently on view at 220 Montgomery St.
