It's not often you experience a reptoid takeover, time travel and an alien autopsy all in one night. But heading to this year's production of "Terror Vault," I knew to expect the unexpected.
Catch up quick: "Terror Vault: Fatal Abduction" is part haunted house, part theater show, part immersive Halloween experience, all themed around a different spooky experience each year.
- Produced by Joshua Grannell (aka famed SF drag icon Peaches Christ) and David Flower, the show is now in its 6th year.
What to expect: The haunt, which lasts about an hour or so, takes you through the bowels of the historic Mint building in SoMa.
- You start off by being recruited to the anti-reptoid uprising before being led through military outposts, alien labs and a post-apocalyptic future world, all in a bid to save the planet.
My thought bubble: This was my second time at "Terror Vault" and the production quality felt like it reached a whole new level.
- While it's got its share of jump scares, I'm a scaredy-cat and I felt like I was more impressed with the immersive show than I was truly horrified.
What to expect: Be prepared for some scares, tight spaces and a distinctly adult experience — when you get to the alien probe scene, you'll understand why this isn't one for kids!
Stop by: "Terror Vault: Fatal Abduction" runs Wednesday through Sunday until Nov. 3. Tickets range from $60-$85 (based on performance day and time) with timed entry in groups of up to 10 at a time.
- VIP tickets also include access to off-limits areas, the "Fang Bang" bar and a glow necklace for opt-in interactivity with performers.
