The SF Giants fired Farhan Zaidi from his role as president of baseball operations yesterday, replacing him with former Giants catcher Buster Posey.
What they're saying: "We appreciate Farhan's commitment," Giants chair Greg Johnson said in a statement. "Ultimately, the results have not been what we had hoped, and while that responsibility is shared by all of us, we have decided that a change is necessary." The Giants finished with a losing record in four of Zaidi's six seasons.
"Buster has the demeanor, intelligence and drive to do this job, and we are confident that he and (manager) Bob Melvin will work together to bring back winning baseball," Johnson added.
The big picture: Posey helped lead the Giants to three World Series before retiring in 2021.
