San Francisco parking control officers have increased enforcement against blocked sidewalks by 62% since May, new SFMTA data shows.
The surge is part of an "intensive" neighborhood-based enforcement, according to a San Francisco Chronicle analysis of the data.
The city has also increased enforcement of other violations by 30% or more compared to last year, per the Chronicle. These include:
Parking in a bus zone
Parking in an area reserved for vehicles like tour buses
Parking in truck loading zones
Obstruction of vehicle or pedestrian traffic
What to watch: SFMTA officials told the Chronicle that with pre-pandemic levels of staffing, it plans to continue this neighborhood enforcement operation indefinitely.
