The end of the NBA regular season is rapidly approaching and the Warriors are jockeying for their final position in the postseason.

State of play: The Warriors, currently the 10th seed in the West, is locked into the Play-In tournament, but there's still time for the Dubs to secure a more favorable spot within it.

How it works: Teams in the Eastern and Western conferences are seeded No. 1-15. The six teams with the best record in each conference are guaranteed a playoff spot.

  • Teams seeded No. 7-10 have to play their way in for the final two spots.

Zoom in: There are three games in the Play-In tournament.

  • One is a battle between the No. 7 and 8 seeds, with the winner of that game getting the seventh spot in its respective conference. The losing team, however, gets one more chance.
  • The other is a game between the No. 9 and No. 10 teams, in which the losing team will see its season come to an end and the winner will face the loser of the No. 7 versus No. 8 game.
  • Whichever team wins that final matchup will get the eighth and final spot in its conference playoffs.

Between the lines: While it's mathematically possible for the Dubs to claim as high as the 7th seed, Golden State has the highest probability (56%) of claiming the ninth seed, according to Playoffstatus.com.

  • That No. 9 seed would still be better than remaining in the 10 slot because the Warriors would play at the Chase Center in their first Play-In game.

What to watch: If the Warriors win their final three games, they'll be guaranteed at least the ninth seed.

  • To advance any further, other teams ahead of the Warriors would need to lose some of their games.

What they're saying: "We need a little help obviously but all we've talked about is just win, take care of our business and see how everything else shakes out," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after Tuesday night's crucial win against the Los Angeles Lakers.

What's next: We won't know the final playoff seedings until the last games of the regular season on April 14.

  • The play-in games are April 16-19 and the playoffs start April 20.
