San Francisco Recreation & Parks has announced new dual-lined courts and expanded open play times for pickleball.

Why it matters: It's part of a larger effort to meet increasing demand for the popular sport.

Moscone Park Playground is home to six new pickleball courts.

Open-play hours (no reservation required):

  • Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 9am–1pm
  • Saturdays: 9am–1pm
  • Sundays: 2–5pm

Reservations can be made:

  • Mondays: 3pm until dark.
  • Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays: 3–6pm
  • Saturdays and Sundays: 5pm until dark

Rossi Playground also has new dedicated open-play hours for pickleball on four courts.

That schedule covers:

  • Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: 9am–1pm
  • Saturdays: 1–5pm
  • Sundays: 9am–2pm

The big picture: Three more pickleball courts will be available this spring — two at Alta Plaza Park and one at Rossi Playground, the department says.

  • It also plans to roll out an online reservation system in April and convene a tennis-pickleball planning roundtable to improve access to court time for both racket sports.
