New artsy matchmaking event hits San Diego

How it works: Matchmaker Lisa Amador asks attendees to fill out a short profile in advance, and then she and her team from Amador Matchmaking attempt to fix people up.

• Attendees can explore the museum, and there will be a DJ, a free cocktail and snacks.

The big picture: As singles get tired of dating apps, in-person events and matchmaking are on the rise.

• Pricey matchmaking services are also seeing a boost after the movie "Materialists."

What they're saying: Michael Bowker attended a similar event in Santa Barbara and said it was much less competitive than the typical bar scene.

• "The men are far calmer and the women are much more relaxed in a situation like this," he said. "This is kind of a special spot where you get to meet people on a different level and in a different environment."

Friction point: Bowker said he attended the event but isn't looking for a serious relationship right now because he's too busy.
