SDFC kicks off 2026 season at Snapdragon

San Diego FC is back on the field Tuesday at Snapdragon Stadium, kicking off the new season with the first match of the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Why it matters: Top club teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean are competing in the prestigious international tournament.

The winner earns a spot in the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

State of play: SDFC qualified by winning the MLS Western Conference in the 2025 regular season.

The team is hosting Liga MX's seven-time champions Pumas UNAM in the first round — a tough first challenge on a difficult path to the final.
SDFC's MVP Anders Dreyer will be leading the squad, and Chucky Lozano isn't on the roster. That's not a surprise, given the team is moving on from him.
