A hot, new happy hour just dropped at one of the city's best restaurants.
Dig in: Fort Oak in Mission Hills is now serving wood-fired small plates and $10 classic cocktails at its cozy, modern bar that's perfect for drinks after work.
- The food menu offers a sampling of what to expect from the kitchen helmed by one of the top chefs in town, Brad Wise.
What to sip: Try the gimlet or lemon drop martini with a sugar rim for something light, tangy and not overly sweet.
- The espresso martini is on tap.
- Get a glass of Italian rose, red or white wine for $10, and local brews for $6.
Best bites: The wagyu longaniza ($11) is a smoky, sliced sausage dish with peppers, a creamy sauce and salsa macha that gives it a nutty flavor.
- The crispy fried chicken wings are topped with a zesty, cilantro-jalapeno relish (6 for $12).
- The Baja shrimp cocktail ($13) was like a fresh ceviche with cucumbers, avocado and clamato.
Next time, I'll try the refried bean dip with soyrizo, braised lamb and adobo jus, or the burger with a truffled onion jam.
If you go: The happy hour menu is available Wednesday-Sunday from 4-6pm, only at the bar and only walk-ins.
The intrigue: Fort Oak does $1 oysters on Mondays from 4-6pm.
