If you're looking to slurp down some fresh oysters this summer, check out these local spots for brackish or briny bivalves on the half shell.
Why it matters: Today is National Oyster Day, but with happy-hour deals, you can celebrate anytime.
Here are some of the best spots for oysters in San Diego:
⚓ Ironside Fish & Oyster Bar has $1 gem oysters, 3-5pm weekdays, that pair well with a cold glass of rosé on the patio in Little Italy. Try them with a dash of the adrenaline jalapeño habanero hot sauce if you like 'em spicy.
🌳 Fort Oak in Mission Hills serves $1 oysters at the bar and on the patio, 4-6pm Mondays. Plus, get cocktail specials and bottles of bubbles at this relaxed, yet swanky bistro that's been voted one of the best restaurants in the city.
🎣 Mabel's Gone Fishing, a Mediterranean-inspired neighborhood joint in North Park, serves half-priced oysters and discounted gin-and-tonic goblets during oyster hour from 4-5pm daily.
🦪 Lionfish, a sophisticated seafood restaurant at the Pendry Hotel in Gaslamp, serves $1.50 Baja oysters with a house-made mignonette during happy hour weekdays, 5-6pm. Cocktails, beer, wine and other bites are $10 and under, too.
🐟 The Fish Shops offer a rotating menu of $1.25 oysters from both coasts every Thursday from 4pm until they run out, plus beer specials. Dine in at their locations in Pacific Beach, Point Loma and Encinitas.
🍸 Oyster and Pearl in La Mesa has $2 oysters during various daily happy hours, but they're half price 4-6pm Thursdays. Cocktails are $5 and draft beers are $2.
🌊 Saltwater in Gaslamp will give you a bottle of champagne and a half dozen oysters for $25 during happy hour, 4-6pm daily. Oysters are $1.50 each if you order at least six.
1 fun thing: Treat yourself to an adult happy meal at Herb and Sea in Encinitas: a smashburger, three West Coast oysters and frites for $20.
