Two of San Diego's biggest festivals — Wonderfront and Same Same But Different — launch joint pass

• Buying both separately is over $800.

The fine print: Organizers are selling only 50 of the Wonderfully Different passes and they're on sale now.

• The joint effort marks another instance of festivals in the region partnering as the industry as a whole grapples with financial challenges.

State of play: The two fests bookend the summer concert season, with Wonderfront on downtown's waterfront May 16-18 and SSBD on Lake Perris Sept. 26-28.

• Wonderfront's lineup includes headliners Peggy Gou, Daniel Caesar, Anderson .Paak, Foster the People, Khruangbin and Gary Clark Jr.
• SSBD hasn't announced its slate yet, but has a reputation of putting up diverse lineups complemented by experimental art in an intimate setting.

What they're saying: "Both of our festivals are uniquely San Diego, and this partnership reflects the collaborative spirit that makes this city special," said Brad Sweet, founder of SSBD.

The big picture: The region's festival landscape has already undergone a significant shift this year, as Wonderfront prepares for its second year held in May, while the rest of the festival industry faces financial problems.

• Events.com, which acquired Wonderfront last year, has also inked a partnership with downtown's Gator by the Bay festival and acquired the Temecula Valley Ballon & Wine Festival.
