San Diego is swimming in seafood restaurants, but Mitch's stands out as a local staple with its daily fresh catch from local fisherman.
Dig in: The casual waterfront eatery will satisfy your seafood cravings and give visitors a quintessential San Diego experience, especially sitting at the outdoor countertop overlooking the Point Loma Marina.
How it works: Pick a daily fish option and how you want it served: grilled on a sandwich, taco, salad or plate with sides.
- The menu also has fried seafood baskets and sandwiches, and a fisherman's stew.
What we ordered: The juicy Wahoo sandwich comes on a torta bun with lettuce, tomato and tartar sauce.
- The hefty fish tacos — swordfish, tuna (cooked pretty rare), and wahoo — are served on corn tortillas with cabbage, salsa and a lime crema drizzled on top.
- The fresh clam chowder isn't super thick but it was a treat to eat even on a warm, sunny day.
Fun fact: Mitch's was the runner up for best seafood restaurant and best fish tacos in San Diego Magazine's annual best restaurants list.
If you go: Located on the Point Loma Sportfishing Dock, Mitch's is open daily for breakfast (8-10:30am), lunch and dinner (10:30am-9pm). Don't be deterred by a long line.
- There's a paid parking lot and a handful of free one-hour spots.
- Pets aren't allowed under a new policy this year, but you can take your food and your pup over to Eppig Brewing.
- You'll likely encounter pigeons and seagulls, and hear military planes roar overhead while eating outside.
