Today is primary election day in South Florida.
Why it matters: Miami-Dade County voters are heading to the polls to elect representatives at the federal, state and local levels.
State of play: As of Monday morning, about 98,100 Miami-Dade residents had voted by mail, while about 58,300 did so in person, according to statewide election data.
- Democrats had a higher turnout, casting 74,690 votes compared to Republicans' nearly 55,970.
Here are the races we're watching closely today:
Miami-Dade Commission
Three seats are up for grabs in Miami-Dade County: Districts 2, 5 and 8.
- Incumbents Marleine Bastien, Vicki Lopez and Danielle Cohen Higgins face challengers.
City of Miami Marine Stadium Referendum
Voters will decide whether the city should enter into a 40-year management agreement and pay up to $10 million to restore Miami Marine Stadium.
Miami-Dade School Board District 1
Two seats are up for grabs, but we're watching District 1 closely, where seven candidates are vying to succeed Steve Gallon III, who resigned to represent the same district on the Miami-Dade County Commission.
Florida House District 108
Three candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination to succeed Rep. Dotie Joseph, who is term-limited: Peter Walsh, Dinah Escarment and Daphne Campbell.
Florida House District 109
Four Democrats are vying for their party's nomination to succeed Rep. Ashley Gantt, who is running for a state Senate seat.
U.S. House District 24
The race to succeed U.S. Rep Frederica Wilson features seven candidates, including outgoing Miami-Dade County Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert III, outgoing Florida state Sen. Shevrin "Shev" Jones and Kendrick Meek, grandson of the late U.S. Rep. Carrie Meek.
U.S. House District 25
This is the newly formed district running along the state's east coast. U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz faces democratic socialist and activist Oliver Adams Larkin, while five candidates vie for the Republican nomination.
