There are few things I love more than a good lunch sandwich. Put simply, a good sando can make or break your day!
Why it matters: Miami has its fair share of Cuban and Latin-style sandwiches, but its classic deli sando options were lacking (prove me wrong!).
- Enter Frankie & Wally's, the new sandwich shop and market in Coral Gables that's filling that gap.
The intrigue: The brand launched during the pandemic, delivering lasagna to folks' homes before opening a food truck. (The lasagna is still available for pickup.)
State of sando: The shop, which opened Feb. 18, features fresh produce and groceries, fancy mayo and packaged condiments, tinned fish and other stuff you'd expect at a specialty market.
- Pro tip: There's a handful of small tables inside, but the patio is where you want to be.
Zoom in: The small menu has just six sandwiches ($14-$25), a handful of baked goods and specialty coffee drinks.
- Customers can choose from plain or sesame bakery bread and most come with the expected fixings.

What we ordered: I got The Frankie (ham, salami, American cheese, fixings). The bread was fresh and the meat cut incredibly thin and layered to perfection.
- My friend Stephanie ordered The Wally (oven-roasted turkey, Muenster cheese, cucumbers, fixings). It was crunchy and refreshing.
- We also got a chocolate chip cookie and you should, too.
Friction point: By about 1pm, they already were sold out of two sandwiches and the sesame bread. (I'll be back to try the Il Padrino.)
- The wait time for our order was also about 30 mins, but we weren't complaining. The sandos were worth the wait.
If you go: 216 Palermo Ave, Coral Gables, Florida
- Current hours: Wed-Sat, 9am-5pm (or until sold out)
