Floridians have captured over 2,000 stunned iguanas during cold front

Driving the news: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission asked residents to take advantage of the unusually frigid weather — which leaves reptiles temporarily stunned — to remove the invasive lizards.

• During the two-day roundup, which ends Monday at 4pm, the FWC issued an executive order waiving its permit requirement to possess and transport live iguanas. (They can be "humanely killed" year-round with landowner permission, per the agency.)

What they're saying: FWC executive director Roger Young told Fox News that the agency had collected more than 2,000 iguanas as of Monday morning.

• "We deem this a pretty good deal for the local municipalities and the counties down in South Florida," Young said.
• Young said this is the first time the FWC has issued an executive order of this kind.
• "We figured we'd take advantage of this cold weather to try to help the landscape in Florida."
• An agency spokesperson told Axios that the final tally will be released on Tuesday.
