Data: Bureau of Labor Statistics; Chart: Axios Visuals
Unemployment in Miami grew 1.2 percentage points from November 2024 to last November, following other cities that saw the nation's largest increases, according to the latest federal data
The big picture: Most U.S. metro areas saw unemployment rise between that one year time frame. But among the 56 metros with more than 1 million people, only seven saw bigger increases than Miami.
Of those, three are in Florida: Tampa (+1.3), Orlando (+1.4) and Jacksonville (+1.6), which saw the nation's largest increase, per the report.
By the numbers: Miami's unemployment rate in November 2024 was 2.9%.
Last year, it grew to 4.1%, just below the national average of 4.3% in November.
Between the lines: The November metro data was delayed and otherwise affected by the government shutdown late last year.
Federal workers affected by the shutdown were counted as employed, the Bureau of Labor Statistics notes — adding that it's "not possible to precisely quantify the effect" of the shutdown on the data overall.
