A bagel expansion, yet another omakase option and the reopening of one of downtown's favorite Mediterranean spots are just some of the restaurant openings we're watching this year.
Why it matters: After a brutal year of closures, we're finding solace in our plans to try new dishes, support the chefs who have been here for a while (maybe the ones from New York, too) and travel well beyond our neighborhoods for a good meal.
Here are some spots (some open, some opening soon) we're looking forward to trying:
Buccan: Chef Clay Conley is bringing his James Beard-nominated Palm Beach restaurant to Miracle Mile in Coral Gables early this year, the Miami Herald reported.
Fooq's: Founded by restaurateur David Foulquier, Fooq's became a downtown favorite after opening in 2015, but closed in 2021, and the spot became Eleventh Street Pizza (popular in its own right).
- Now, under chef Andrew Bazzini, the Mediterranean restaurant is reopening in Little River in a two-story space that will feature wood-fire cooking, indoor and outdoor seating and a second-floor vinyl lounge.
H&H Bagels: The New York City bagel institution is poised to open two Miami locations this year: one in Wynwood, the other in Pinecrest.
- The Miami New Times confirmed its U.S. 1 location, spotting signage at the Suniland Shopping Center.
JaJaJa Plantas Mexicana: The plant-based Mexican restaurant from New York opened in in Wynwood last month.
- The restaurant's first Florida location offers vegan versions of classic favorites like heart of palm ceviche, jackfruit enchiladas and tempura'd cauliflower tacos.
Kryu: Another omakase restaurant is coming to Miami. This time, it's Kryu, the acclaimed Michelin one-star restaurant from Tokyo known for its wagyu.
Ted's Burgers: Ted's gained a cult following as a pop-up in front of the now-closed J. Wakefield Brewery in Wynwood.
- It finally reopened with its brick-and-mortar location in Wynwood last month (Dec. 20).
Tín Tín: The team behind the beloved Tinta y Café opened a new restaurant in December in Little Havana, offering an "elevated dining" experience that blends Cuban, French and Italian cuisines.
