For months, I've watched diners line up by the dozens outside of Marc's Artisanal Pizzeria, annoyed folks were suddenly flocking to my neighborhood because a certain someone reviewed it on his social media account.
- Meanwhile, my Instagram feed was flooded with influencer reviews about the "hidden" "North Miami" pizza spot that was "worth the drive."
Why it matters: The lines have subsided and I finally got to walk across the street (no drive needed because — shocking! — people do live here) with my friend Angie and try my neighborhood pizza spot.
- Reader: It was worth the wait.
- And for the love of god, it's North Beach, not North Miami (looking at you, Portnoy).
The vibe: Casual, like you're walking into a friend's home. The terrazzo tables, decorated with small, fresh flowers and a can of olive oil, offer a welcoming, light feel.
- There's only a handful of tables, too, so there's that cozy element.
What we ordered: We started with the Cesaer salad, as all pizza dinners should. I never complain about excessive amounts of parm, but I could've used a bit more pepper, maybe more dressing.
- The Margherita was a perfect take on the classic pie. Crust was thin and full of burnt air pockets (ideal), yet sturdy, even as the gooey cheese pulled when grabbing a slice.
- The Pepperoni Piccante. We opted for the Square Sicilian style, and you should, too. It was topped with heaps of fresh basil, the tall, crispy edges were the correct amount of greasy and the pepp offered a good bit of heat.
Between the lines: Any pie can be ordered in the traditional round or Sicilian style.
The bottom line: I'm still annoyed at the lines and incorrect verbal geotags by folks who should know better, but I love that Marc's (and my little neighborhood) is getting the recognition and kudos it deserves.
