Bikini Hostel shuts down ahead of demolition. Nearly 100 tenants relocated

The latest: A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust tells Axios the Bikini Hostel closed July 31, and 94 tenants were relocated.

• The majority of them (69) were moved to emergency shelters, while 17 were placed in permanent supportive housing.
• Two were placed in institutions.
• "Case managers left business cards with contact information at the front desk in case someone returns and needs assistance."

Catch up quick: The Bikini Hostel started providing temporary housing in November after a contract between the Camillus House shelter and the city of Miami expired, leaving 50 people with nowhere to go.

• Neighboring West Avenue residents soon began to complain that they felt unsafe, and Miami Beach officials have since tried to shut down the hostel or pay to relocate its residents.

What's next: JDS Development Group, which is reportedly under contract to purchase the hostel for an estimated $20 million, was given four months in July to buy the hostel, relocate its tenants and file for a demolition permit, per its agreement with the city.
