NHC tracking two disturbances as hurricane season ramps up

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two disturbances in the Atlantic.

A third, Tropical Storm Dexter, the fourth named storm of the season, continues to move out to sea.

Why it matters: August is usually when hurricane season ramps up, thanks to warming waters.

The latest: Forecasters gave of the closer of the two disturbances — near the northeast coast of Florida — a 40% of developing into a tropical depression in the next week, the Miami Herald reported.

The center gave the third, which is still off the coast of Africa, a 50% likelihood for development on Tuesday morning, per the outlet.
