Skateboarder Rayssa Leal looks to Brazilian community for motivation during SLS Miami

Flashback: Leal, who won her first Olympic medal at age 13, went viral at 7 years old when skating legend Tony Hawk shared a video of Leal heel flipping over a staircase in a fairy costume.

We asked Leal a few questions ahead of her competition. Responses edited for space.

Miami has a big Brazilian community. How will it feel to have their support Saturday?

• "It means so much to me! Having Brazilians cheering for me feels like being home even when I'm far away. Their energy and love give me a lot of motivation, and I'm so excited to skate for them."

When did you start skating, and how do you manage the pressure of being a superstar athlete at a young age?

• "I started skating when I was about 6 years old. It's something I've always loved to do — it makes me happy! Of course, there's pressure sometimes, but I try to remember why I started skating in the first place: for the love of it."
• "I have an amazing family and team who support me and help me stay focused on having fun and enjoying every moment."

You will appear in Tony Hawk's new "Pro Skater" video game. Can you talk about your relationship and the feeling of being in one of his games?

• "It's a dream come true! Tony Hawk is such a big inspiration for me and for so many skaters around the world. He's always been super kind and supportive.
• Being part of his video game is unbelievable — I grew up hearing about how legendary it is, and now to actually be in it feels surreal. I'm so honored and grateful!"
