Huntsville City Council has a lot on its plate tonight.
📍 TIF time
Council will consider the city's latest Tax Increment Financing District, TIF 9, centered on downtown, with a more detailed presentation from Shane Davis, director of economic and urban development.
- Introduced last month, the nearly 3,700-acre TIF 9 would capture tax revenue from rising property values and use them to pay down debt borrowed for new infrastructure projects within that area.
- Check out our breakdown here.
🏢 Supporting Space Command
Also up for a vote is a $45 million contribution to Redstone Arsenal, with $15 million from the state to build military-spec housing for Space Command's senior leadership and $30 million from the city for infrastructure and other improvements for the new headquarters.
- The gift commitment was part of the original proposal submitted during the initial selection process for the permanent Space Command headquarters, per a city announcement.
- Here is some of our latest coverage on the move.
🛣️ Safer Parkway intersections
An application for a Safe Streets and Roads for All grant for intersection improvements along Memorial Parkway is up for potential action tonight as well.
- May 26 is the deadline for the federal grants, which are aimed at preventing roadway fatalities and serious injuries.
🕊️ Remembering Microwave Dave
Huntsville music legend Microwave Dave Gallaher could be honored tonight with a portion of Cleveland Avenue and the Downtown Dog Spot bearing his name.
- There's also a resolution in his honor set for earlier in the meeting.

What we're watching: There are also items for the city to purchase "food and beverage concession assets used at Orion Amphitheater," and approve an amended agreement "respecting the operation and management of Orion."
- The city will also weigh an engineering agreement for the 2.4-mile Bailey Cove Multi-Use Path.
