Microwave Dave Way, Dog Spot

Huntsville wants to memorialize local music legend Microwave Dave Gallaher by renaming a downtown street and dog park in his honor.

Why it matters: Gallaher, who died in February, made a lasting impact through his music, community involvement and the Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation.

• To honor that impact, the city is proposing to rename a portion of Cleveland Avenue to "Microwave Dave Way," and rename the Downtown Dog Spot in that area to the "Microwave Dave Dog Spot."
• If approved tonight, the new Microwave Dave Way will stretch from Meridian Street, by the Furniture Factory and Barracuda Taco Stand, to Church Street by the Huntsville/Madison County Visitor Center.

Driving the news: "Microwave Dave's contributions have elevated Huntsville's reputation as a city that values music, art, education and cultural heritage," the street name change resolution says.
