The Axios South Florida contingent recently got together for a little coworking session and lunch at La Sosta off Polk Street in Hollywood.

We all love a good sandwich (especially Sommer), so La Sosta had been on our radar.

Dig in: Martin and Naomi started with some coffee and we both approved. Sommer opted for what Martin described as an "aristocratic tea party" (we wish we had the pics to prove it).

What we ordered: Martin got the Mortadella and Pesto on ciabatta, while Sommer and Naomi went halfsies on the Il Classico Toscano (prosciutto and burrata) and Il Vegetariano Freddo (marinated veggies) on focaccia.

No sandwich is complete without a side of chips, so we got the paprika chips.

😍 Sommer's review: The II Vegetariano was a perfectly layered sando with grilled eggplant, artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes brought together with a punchy roasted pepper crema.

The handful of arugula added a lovely crunch.

😋 Naomi's review: I studied abroad in Florence (although it got cut short due to the pandemic), so I've had my fair share of Italian sandwiches and La Sosta's are right up there.

I could tell they are using high-quality ingredients with each bite. The sandwiches taste very fresh, airy and light. The focaccia has a perfect crust and the veggies were well-marinated and packed with flavor.

You also can't go wrong with their classic prosciutto sando.

I'm definitely trying the iced Italian latte, which basically looks like tiramisu in beverage form.

😁 Martin's review: I enjoyed the mortadella and pesto. It was fresh, flavorful and packed with greens (but maybe too much for my liking). After trying the other sandos, I think the veggie was my favorite.

Focaccia bread made for an easier bite, too

Open Monday-Thursday from 8am-4pm and Friday-Sunday from 8am-6pm.

Review: La Sosta's Italian sandwiches are the real deal

The Axios Miami and Hollywood crews were impressed by the high-quality sandos.

Guides

The first thing you notice when you walk into Ceviche DOZO on Hollywood Boulevard is that chef Harumi Mattiacci is all by herself, and somehow everywhere at once.

Why it matters: Chef Harumi is the owner and sole employee of this Hollywood Boulevard gem. She greets customers, takes orders and cooks authentic Japanese cuisine at lightning speed.

Dig in: Ceviche DOZO, which opened in 2016, specializes in "fresh simple genuine Japanese food," prepared by a Japanese chef who worked in Japan and in London before moving to South Florida.

The vibe: Hip and laid back, with an edgy '90s alt-rock playlist.

What to try: My wife and I have visited several times. Our favorites include:

The sushi. If you want authentic sushi, they've got the freshest melt-in-your-mouth fish. The $7 hosomaki rolls are pared-down perfection.

Chicken katsu curry: Warm, comforting and delicious. The curry is slow-cooked but you'll make quick work of it. ($22)

Okonomi-style French fries, a Japanese street food with a delicious salty and sweet sauce. ($4)

Veggie spring rolls: Perfectly crispy and juicy. ($6.50)

Pro tip: Try the rotating drink and food specials. When I went in July, I really enjoyed the aji fry ($5), a breaded mackerel with tonkotsu sauce and tartar.

The drink menu includes beer, sake and specialty cocktails, like the frozen sake slushie.
