1-minute voter guide: Weiser and Marx battle for Colorado governor

State of play: Victor Marx, a first-time candidate from Colorado Springs, is a Marine veteran and martial artist who runs All Things Possible Ministries, a nonprofit that works in conflict zones.

• His unconventional backstory has drawn scrutiny, as he's acknowledged killing a man at age 7 and believes he can exorcise demons.

• He's casting himself as a political outsider, promising to challenge Democratic control. His running mate is retired Marine Col. George Markert.

Phil Weiser, Colorado's term-limited attorney general, previously served as dean of the University of Colorado Law School and an antitrust official in the Obama administration. He's the favorite to win.

• The son and grandson of Holocaust survivors, Weiser often talks about his family.
• Weiser has made opposing President Trump a centerpiece of his campaign. His office has filed or joined nearly 100 lawsuits against the administration. His running mate is Jefferson County Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper.

🏠 Weiser has vowed to help build 40,000 additional homes, particularly for teachers, nurses and first responders, by streamlining permitting and expanding down-payment assistance.

• Marx wants to ease environmental regulations to boost the housing stock.

💰On state spending, Marx wants to audit all spending and implement zero-based budgeting to cut government waste.

• Weiser supports increasing the spending cap in the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights for education and other essential programs.

✊ Weiser supports changing the Labor Peace Act to eliminate a second worker vote required before unions can negotiate certain fees — a departure from Polis, who twice vetoed such legislation.

• Marx wants to keep the requirement.

Also running, former Trump appointee Greg Lopez, who is now a registered unaffiliated voter, is competing as an independent candidate, but his campaign isn't gaining traction.
