1-minute voter guide: Bridges and Grantham compete for Colorado state treasurer

State of play: Both candidates are veteran lawmakers seeking to replace Democrat Dave Young, who's term-limited.

• Bridges is a state senator from Greenwood Village who's served on the powerful Joint Budget Committee and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard.
• Grantham is a current Fremont County commissioner and commercial real estate appraiser who previously served on the Cañon City Council and in the Colorado Senate, including as president from 2017 to 2018.

Zoom in:

Bridges wants to redirect some state investments toward Colorado housing, infrastructure, clean energy and small businesses, arguing the funds could generate economic benefits closer to home.

• He also proposes a forensic accounting unit within the treasury to investigate other agencies' spending and catch problems earlier.

Grantham prioritizes investment safety, returns and keeping money accessible when the state needs it. He's open to local projects, but says they should carry no additional risk and be as beneficial to taxpayers as conventional investments.

• He prefers using the office's public platform to influence budget and financial legislation rather than expanding its responsibilities.

On one of the state's top fiscal issues, they split again.

• Bridges supports raising the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights revenue cap so state lawmakers can spend more on public K-12 education.
• Grantham defends TABOR as a check on government growth and argues the state should do more with existing resources rather than ask residents for more money.
