1-minute voter guide: Gabe Evans and Manny Rutinel compete in the 8th District

State of play: The district stretches north of Denver and includes Commerce City, Greeley, Northglenn, Westminster and Fort Lupton.

Meet the candidates:

Evans, nearing the end of his first term after flipping the seat in 2024, has largely backed President Trump's agenda.

• He's occasionally broken with the administration — including calling on ICE to avoid arresting undocumented immigrants who haven't been convicted of or suspected of crimes.
• His priorities include strengthening public safety and border security, supporting agriculture and oil and gas, lowering inflation and improving veterans' care.

Rutinel, a former state lawmaker, is emphasizing his working-class background and opposition to Trump's policies.

• His priorities include protecting Social Security and Medicare, lowering costs for working families, and making housing more affordable.
• He also backs stronger safeguards for AI and a pathway to citizenship for long-term undocumented residents, including Dreamers.
