1-minute voter guide: Shimon Blau and Melat Kiros seek 1st District seat

State of play: Three candidates are vying to represent the heavily Democratic 1st Congressional District, which covers most of Denver and part of Arapahoe County.

Meet the candidates:

• Democrat Melat Kiros enters as the frontrunner after unseating DeGette in June. She's campaigning on affordability, Medicare for All, ending U.S. military conflicts abroad, abolishing ICE and expanding universal child and elder care.
• Independent Shimon Blau, a semi-retired doctor, is pitching himself as a moderate focused on lowering health care costs, backing businesses and policies protecting the environment. He says he'll caucus with Democrats if elected.
• Republican Christy Peterson, an accountant and designer, advocates for smaller government, lower taxes, tighter border security and ending sanctuary city policies. She also supports gun rights and Israel.
