Denver shelter's longest-waiting duo needs a home

Meet Lupina: The 6-year-old Rottweiler mix has a graying muzzle, a big toothy grin and, on a recent visit, a pink flower collar that accentuates her 83-pound figure.

• Staff describe her as sweet and snuggly, equally happy lounging around or going for a walk.

Meet Damu: Her 8-year-old pit bull mix bestie is hard to miss, with his mostly white coat, big brown eye patch and soft pink snout.

• He's friendly, goofy and a sucker for belly rubs. His favorite place, staff say, is someone's lap — never mind his roughly 72-pound frame.

Yes, but: Lupina and Damu are reactive around other animals, so they need a home where they'll be the only pets.

The bottom line: Their size and pairing requirement often get "overlooked," adoption counselor Christine Kennedy tells Axios. Spend a little time with them, though, and Kennedy says they're just "big babies."

• Adoption fees are $75 each.
