UMS makes its RiNo premiere

The Underground Music Showcase is back, baby.

Why it matters: The festival's debut in the RiNo Art District marks a new era for the cultural touchstone, giving music fans a chance to discover old favorites and emerging voices right in their backyard.

State of play: The three-day festival features more than 200 performances across 15 stages and venues starting tomorrow.

• Local businesses via the RiNo Business Improvement District have a 50% stake in the festival, which organizers say will provide financial stability and keep the programming local.

Between the lines: The festival also includes free events, like dance parties, live mural painting, roller skating, yoga and merch pop-ups.

• Indie 102.3 hosts a free kickoff party tomorrow starting at 4pm with a live acoustic performance from Denver-based group Marfa at Ratio Beerworks.

The vibe: Headliners range from 54 Ultra to Slenderbodies, Goldie Boutilier, Angélica Garcia and Bad Nerves.
