Progressive secures Democratic nomination for Colorado secretary of state

State of play: Gonzalez has served as Jefferson County clerk and recorder since 2023, overseeing elections in one of Colorado's largest counties.

• She campaigned on making the state's campaign finance website easier to navigate, ensuring every eligible voter can participate in the 2028 presidential election — which the next secretary of state will oversee — and preparing to defend Colorado's mail voting system if the Trump administration interferes.

What's next: Gonzalez will face Republican James Wiley, who ran unopposed, in November's general election. The winner will serve as Colorado's chief election official through the 2030 election cycle.
