Denver police offering free anti-theft bike registration

How it works: DPD will waive the usual $10 fee for cyclists to receive a bike decal and register their bikes with 529 Garage, the department's bike registry.

• Registered bikes can be entered into police reports faster if they're stolen, and allow others on the platform to flag them if they're spotted.

By the numbers: More than 400 bikes were recovered in 2023 but went unclaimed or returned due to lack of registration, per DPD.

What's next: To encourage people to register, police and volunteers will be at five locations around the city:

• Denver Zoo at 3220 E. 23rd Ave. from 7-9am
• REI at 1416 Platte St. from 6-9am
• Cherry Creek Trail at 2889 Cherry Creek N Dr. from 7-9am
• Founders' Green Park at E. 29th Ave. & N. Roslyn St. from 6:30-9am
• Skyline Park at 1701 Arapahoe St. from 6-9am
