The Montbello Recreation Center in far northeast Denver opens today after 14-year-old Mikail Nasir Khalid Payne's was fatally shot there last month.
Catch up quick: The rec center closed for more than two weeks. Police arrested a 15-year-old in connection with the shooting.
The latest: Public feedback supported the reopening, and the city timed it to the start of summer, per a statement. Programming will be available immediately.
What they're saying: "The Montbello Recreation Center is more than a facility. It is a place of connection and belonging," Denver Parks and Recreation executive director Jolon Clark said in a statement.
