Denver commits to building new City Park bandstand

Denver plans to rebuild City Park's bandstand after a March fire destroyed the landmark.

Why it matters: The city's largest park is getting a new stage — helped along by thousands of dollars in community donations.

The latest: Mayor Mike Johnston joined Denver Parks and Recreation on Monday to announce the rebuild, after a structural review found the remaining bandstand couldn't be saved.

Local architecture firm Mundus Bishop will design the new structure.
Demolition is slated for this fall, with construction expected to start next year.

What we're watching: The city hopes to finish the project in time for the 2027 City Park Jazz season.

It needs to raise $250,000 to cover the insurance deductible and help fund the rebuild.

The park agency thanked the public, "Next with Kyle Clark," Denver Park Trust, City Park Alliance and City Park Friends and Neighbors for helping raise money for the project.

What's next: A June 28 pop-up at City Park Jazz will give the public a chance to meet the Mundus Bishop team and get updates.
