Councilmember Sarah Parady to resign in August

State of play: Her resignation is set to take effect Aug. 5.

• By waiting until then, the special election to select her replacement can take place on Election Day, avoiding a separate election for the seat, she explained in her statement.

What they're saying: "It is devastating to me to have reached this point, because I love being here working for us as a collective every single day," Parady said.

Between the lines: Parady regularly clashed with Mayor Mike Johnston over policy proposals, including raising concerns about the city's contract with Flock, an automated license plate reader company. The city has since ended its contract with the company.

• "Though we have sometimes viewed issues differently, I have never questioned her values or her deep desire to improve the lives of Denverites," Johnston said in a statement.
• Council President Amanda Sandoval called Parady, "a thoughtful leader, a principled voice, and a champion for the issues she cares deeply about," in a seperate statement.

Flashback: Parady was sworn in in July 2023, joining a historically diverse council. Her current term was scheduled to run through July 19, 2027.
